Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme (SECP)

Business Skills for Creating, Sustaining, and Scaling Change

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead
The Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme (SECP) provides social leaders and innovators with the strategic, technical and business skills they need to create sustainable, scalable, high impact organisations.

What should I expect from SECP?

An accredited, mid-level management programme, SECP explores how to create powerful, systemic change, how to build institutions that are effective and sustainable, and how to scale up initiatives for greater long-term impact.

Expect to have your paradigms shifted, to work hard and develop new skills, to grow your networks, and to gain exposure to each of the capacities you need to develop and run a social enterprise.

Who is the SECP for?

SECP is designed for social entrepreneurs, leaders and managers of social initiatives, as well as business, CSI, and government executives who are interested in being more involved in the social entrepreneurship space. We are looking for visionary individuals who are driven to engage, learn intensively, and share their knowledge and experiences with peers.

What distinguishes SECP from other programmes?

SECP is the only accredited, social entrepreneurship training programme in Southern Africa.  The coursework is blend of theory and practical skills, and covers core strategic, operational and management skills, as well as issues around social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Assignments will be directly linked to each delegate's own initiative/organisation, so that upon graduation s/he will have the profile of skills, tools and resources they need to build and run an effective social enterprise.

Delegate’s description of SECP’s impact:

“Intense... great overall value!”

“It challenged our creativity as a sector.”

“[I] appreciated being asked to step up… a course from GIBS carries prestige and credibility, and I’m glad we were never allowed to ‘dumb it down.’”

“The programme has been well organised and the environment really encourages thinking and is conducive to learning.”

“Brilliant content, delivery, and interaction.”
