Africa has just enjoyed its best growth decade on record. With a collective GDP of over $1.6 trillion (expected to rise to $2.6 trillion by 2020), Africa today is one of the world’s fastest growing regions.
Long associated with a reliance on foreign aid, Africa now boasts the highest returns on investment of any region in the world. While it is the boundless opportunities in natural resources that are currently driving this growth, Africa's billion-strong population that is mostly youthful and increasingly urbanized will translate into a booming consumer and labour market in years to come. Africa’s future potential has now become a reality.
Despite improved political and economic stability, and rising business confidence, Africa remains a highly complex and challenging environment for investors and business practitioners.
This programme comprises a block in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria to provide delegates with a unique exposure to each of these regions while providing the practical skills and knowledge required to successfully operate and grow a business on the African continent. Delegates will learn about the challenges of doing business in the region and how to effectively lead a business that has an African footprint. They will also learn lessons from the experience of others who have ventured into the continent, who will give their insights on what it takes to do business successfully in Africa.
The programme has a strong commercial focus, with the aim of providing delegates with the tools and practical knowledge necessary for navigating their way through the intricacies of conducting business in Africa. The in-depth curriculum draws from GIBS’ experience with case-based teaching, lectures, panel sessions and group work. This is a programme with a strong practical orientation of general management.
