Programme Structure

The Nexus programme incorporates a variety of learning methods:
  • Learning Journeys:  Four one-day field trips to visit communities, government initiatives and businesses that are doing extraordinary things in their environment.
  • Guest Speakers:  Five speaker interactions in which participants learn personally and directly from leaders in business, state and social sectors.
  • Dialogue Groups: Five evening working groups in which participants engage in deep dialogue with peers around key issues.
  • Action Learning Project: An action learning project where participants work together as a syndicate team over four months to deliver a high impact project of lasting value to a community.
  • Leadership Seminar: A weekend away in which content and learning from the year is pulled together and integrated into a whole. Participants report back on commitments made.
  • Assessment: Four reflective essays and three independently assessed assignments that will ensure embedded learning and long lasting impact. These essays will form a personal leadership book based on participants’ experience.

Leadership Intent

The challenges faced by all of us require leading beyond the boundaries that limit us today.

Many of the problems faced in organisations have their origins in the limits that are imposed by our own mindsets and the realities of the world around us. These challenges can take the form of out-dated perspectives, complex human dynamics, new markets, shifting political winds, economic uncertainty, societal pressures and all the uncertainties of being part of a new democracy.

Being part of something new presents exciting possibilities. But having no map makes it hard to choose the direction required. You and your organisation are probably grappling with how to navigate a complex diverse country. There are real rewards for those who can do so.

But there are also real and imagined constraints that prevent such progress. These limits operate at the level of the self, group and society as a whole. Through Nexus you will learn how to go beyond what we currently imagine is possible. If you participate on Nexus you will stretch yourself, you will see more potential in others and you will identify more opportunity in society around you. You will gain further ability to see what is needed and create change.

Professional success requires technical and management competency, but to make a significant difference requires more than this. Through participation on Nexus you will journey beyond some of the boundaries in your own worldview, in your professional relationships and in our society.

We have come to realise that to be a more complete leader requires combining business and management experience with insight into ourselves, the people around us and our country as a whole.
